What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is a natural system of medicine developed over 200 years ago by the German physician Samuel Hahnemann. It treats each person as an individual and it is based on the idea that the body has a natural ability to heal itself.
The word homeopathy comes from two Greek words: homeo, meaning “similar”, and pathy, meaning “suffering” = “similar suffering.”
This reflects the central principle of homeopathy: “like cures like.” In simple terms, a substance that can cause certain symptoms in a healthy person may, when prepared in highly diluted doses, help support healing in someone experiencing similar symptoms.
As an example, when a healthy person drinks coffee, they may feel wide awake, restless, mentally overactive, and unable to sleep. These are the kinds of symptoms coffee can produce in a healthy person.
In homeopathy, when someone experiences similar symptoms, such as sleeplessness caused by an overactive mind, excitement, or racing thoughts, a remedy made from coffee (Coffea cruda) may be used to alleviate the symptoms.
Homeopathy takes a holistic approach, considering the whole person - spiritual, emotional, mental and physical - rather than focusing only on the illness itself. Remedies are made from natural substances and are highly diluted, making them gentle and widely used by people of all ages. Homeopathically prepared remedies, providing the minimum dose, are gentle, subtle and powerful. They are non-addictive and not tested on animals.
